We use Unreal Engine, which is currently the most popular game engine for demanding and extensive scenarios. In addition to the game engine’s native features, we code additional features ourselves and connect them to different data sources. We have created our own technology on top of the existing game engine, which is used for viewing models on different devices and visualizes information produced by third parties.

High-quality Manual Modeling

We model buildings and streets manually based on real-life dimensions, drawings and pictures. This is why our quality is very high compared to existing map applications, which are usually created based on aerial images. In Helsinki2020 the user gets to travel on pedestrian level and inside modeled buildings.

Helsinki2020 model currently works in the web browser or in real-time on mobile devices and on the HTC Vive virtual reality system. We want to create the best possible experience for each different device. This means that, for example, the web material is preprocessed so that the high visual quality is preserved.
